Transmediation

Seigel (1995) writes about the generative power of transmediation, the “act of translating meanings from one sign system to another” (pg. 455). As students explore their ideas through different mediums, they generate connections and new thinking that would not have been possible in one medium alone. The act of translating across sign systems extends and deepens their understanding. The arts fundamentally support students in expressing their ideas.
